“El investigador debe tener un método preciso para llegar a un fin, debe aprender a ver más allá de la superficie de las cosas, debe tener curiosidad y capacidad de asombro”- decía Amalia Lejavitzer en sus clases de metodología de investigación cuando estudiaba la carrera de Literatura Clásica en la UNAM. Con la decisión de investigar la gastronomía nayarita y documentarla he recordado sus clases…"curiosidad y capacidad de asombro", son los únicos dos requisitos del investigador. Pensando en conversaciones de mi vida como la siguiente: “Fíjate que fulanita de tal ya consiguió trabajo, decía yo, para acto seguido ser interrogada- ¿y en donde trabaja?, ¿cuánto gana?, ¿qué hace?- mientras que yo respondo a todas y cada una de ellas con desconcierto las palabras: no sé.” He llegado a la conclusión de que tal vez me falta curiosidad, pero tengo una capacidad de asombro en grado superlativo, espero compense  mi falta de curiosidad.

Ante la necesidad de un plan de trabajo decidí que lo primero que debo tener es un mapa del estado de Nayarit, nunca pensé que fuera tan complicado conseguir uno. Fui a papelerías, a librerías, a la secretaría de turismo y no encuentro un mapa grande, los de las papelerías son muy chicos, yo quiero uno con carreteras y que esté grande. Uno de mis hermanos me dijo que fuera al INEGI, ¡jamás se me hubiera ocurrido!..hoy fui y ¡sí tienen! hay dos tamaños, elegí el más grande, es de 120 x 92 cm. Al llegar a casa lo pegué en la pared que está junto a mi escritorio, en un espacio libre entre los libreros.

En la primaria nos decían que Nayarit tenía la figura de un hombre cargando un costal y ¡así es! Me apabulla verlo, se ve muy grande y mucho por recorrer, por cuestión de orden he decidido peinar el estado de norte a sur, además que el norte tiene fama de buena comida de mariscos, creo es la que nos da identidad.

Amalia exigía una delimitación en los temas y creo que sólo me voy a enfocar en los platillos de mariscos pues son los más conocidos y representativos de Nayarit. No creo tocar la Sierra.

“The researcher must have a method to reach his goal, must learn to see beyond the surface, must have curiosity and capacity to be surprised”- those were the words of my teacher Amalia Lejavitzer when studying Classical Literature in the UNAM. With the decision of researching and documenting Nayarit´s gastronomy, her classes came to my mind. “Curiosity and capacity to be surprised”, are the only two requirements to be a researcher. Thinking of conversations I have held in my life, like the next one: “Oh! Joan Doe just got a job”- I would say. Well, Next I know I´m bombarded by a rain of questions like, “where does she work?, how much does she make?, what does she do?”, and my answer would unlikely be: “ I don´t know!”. So I have reach the conclusion that I lack curiosity, but I do have a superlative capacity to be surprised that I hope, it compensates my lack of curiosity.

Do to the need to have a research plan, I decided that the first thing I need is a map of the State of Nayarit. I never thought it would be so complicated. I have been to different shops, book stores, to the Tourist Secretary and I just can´t find a big map. One brother told me I should go to INEGI, a government office that is in charge of population census, I would never thought of that!.. I went there today and they have it in two big sizes! I chose the bigger one, 3 X 3.9 feet. When I got home I nailed it in my wall near my desk in between two bookcases.

At Elementary School, we were told that our State has the shape of a man leaning loaded with a sack, and it truly does! It overwhelms me to look at it, it looks so big, a lot to travel. Just for order sake I have decided to start from north to south, besides the northern part is known by its seafood dishes.

Amalia, would demand a delimitation of a subject, so I think I will only research the most known and representative dishes of the state, which is seafood. I do not think I will go to the mountains, where the original people from this land live.
